Fernando Hierro has stepped down as Spain boss following a poor Euro defeat by France, with Julen Lopetegui handed the reigns until the end of the tournament.

Analysis

Sportsweek presenter Craig Burns, on Radio Scotland

Spain are playing for relegation right now and their recent performances, like Monday’s, would qualify them for the knock-out stages of the World Cup.

Everywhere I look, they’re doing the wrong things – not only making mistakes themselves but also the opposition.

They had their moments in the World Cup when they beat France and Uruguay. But so far in the current campaign they’ve hardly threatened.

Lopetegui was just waiting to go home and was relieved to be given the job when Hierro left and had a wonderful time, and now he’s back it looks as if Spain are heading the other way.
