Fox News and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani’s feud got messier when Trump’s attorney made out at a City Council hearing on Tuesday.

That prompted Giuliani to take issue with the comments of fellow former mayor Ed Koch. Giuliani was asked about Koch’s criticism of the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.

Koch told NBC News “He’s uneducated, his father is uneducated and his mother is uneducated. I’m not going to defend the president. I hope he goes away.”

After Giuliani went on to blame “cowardly” Koch and other Democrats for blocking the construction of a new New York City school building, Koch appeared on Fox Business and said he had given Giuliani a 15-second warning before appearing on Fox News on Tuesday.

“In the book I write,” said Koch, “I did warn Giuliani this wasn’t a good idea. I said to him: ‘Don’t say anything stupid.’

“But when he comes on the fox, he can’t be told, you know. So he said ‘Hey, I just came off a flight, Rudy,’ and he said: ‘Yeah, right. Hey, Ed.’ He said: ‘Look, Ed, you sound like you’re a Democrat again.’”

Speaking on Fox and Friends on Wednesday, Giuliani defended Koch’s speech to Fox Business and lambasted the news organisation as “the little corporate apologist that deals only with the president’s shortcomings, and what they don’t do is report as accurately as they should. So instead of the other way around, we have Rudy trying to defend the president against Ed.”

Giuliani continued that as former New York City mayor, Koch “supports abortion rights for the unborn babies and guns for the citizens” of New York City and pointed out Koch’s opposition to Donald Trump Jr.

Giuliani was critical of Koch’s testimony too. “I wouldn’t say Ed Koch is a conservative, OK? I disagree with Ed Koch on the issue of abortion. I disagree with Ed Koch on the issue of guns, OK? You know why? Because we’re friends. But I tell you, Ed Koch, we went to Yale together. We were classmates.

“On the issue of guns, he is completely a nincompoop. I mean, I’ve heard people say that. Ed Koch believes in the Second Amendment. I do too. But he thinks there should be no controls whatsoever on guns. I don’t.”

Giuliani also had more tweets on Wednesday:

Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) Wow. Rudy had a huge laugh seeing this on FB. #oxford

Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) Ed Koch is not off my candidate list. God bless him. But my job is to represent the people of Queens & I will do it. Just sayin

Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) I must say, the left wing media absolutely hates Ed Koch’s politics.

Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) Didn’t I say none of what he said is really news? The hypocrisy of the left is beyond belief.

Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) the left wing media hates Ed Koch for reasons I don’t understand. They created him on the air to protest against me because he was siding with good public service.

Twitter users seemed to agree.

One tweeted: “This was a particularly spiteful response by @RudyGiuliani.”

Another commented: “If Ed Koch killed your dog then Rudy Giuliani would shoot you. That is the point.”
